In 2021, renowned AI researchers Maithra Raghu and Fabio Petroni were busy deepening their expertise in similar fields, but on different sides of the planet. Maithra was at Google Brain in Mountain View, CA, working on neural network training, while Fabio was at Meta AI in London, leading research breakthroughs in Knowledge Intensive NLP such as Language Models as Knowledge Bases? and the original RAG paper.
Meanwhile, other developments in AI opened up an opportunity to transform the problem space our founders know so well: knowledge-intensive workflows.
An email made its way from Silicon Valley to Europe and, some weeks later, Samaya AI was born.
Samaya is a Sanskrit word, meaning “the appointed or proper time for doing something”.
